Mom's Funeral

Image
Mom's viewing was really just a gathering of friends, family and loved ones.  We sat, laughed and reminisced about our sweet mother. Her husband, children and grandchildren Her Mother and brothers and sisters Her nieces and nephews Her aunts, uncles and cousins   Uncle Scott entertaining his nephews     The Funeral was tender and sweet, and a beautiful tribute to our mom.  Taylor reminded me so much of her as she sang "I am a Child of God" with the grandchildren.       Daniel's Memory Mom was a good friend. we would discuss everything. but one of my favorite memories is in Brigham city. mom, dad, and i would stay up late into the night reading quietly not saying anything. Dad would go to bed because he was and is an old man. me and mom would keep reading. after a while mom would turn to me and say, "go to bed."  I would grunt in rep

Memories of Mom

Image
I, along with my sister and brothers were able to reminisce about mom this weekend and compile a list of memories we never want to forget. Feel free to leave a comment at the end and share some of your own!  Here are some of the reasons we love our mom... She loved "Trident" Cinnamon Gum, caramel corn balls and coconut anything (especially Alomond Joy's) She did not like Chocolate, beef or pork She was a great cook unless she lost track of time and burnt the food.  If she was chopping things on the cutting board, and you reached in to steal a bite, she would pretend to stab your finger with the knife. She even got us once or twice. She was very creative but not frilly and crafty. She was frugal. She would clip coupons and like a gift even more if she knew you got it on sale.  She would never spend money on herself, but would on others. We drank powdered milk most of our childhood.   She had a beautiful alto voice and was amazing at her favorite calling as P

A Well Fought Fight!

My mom's battle with Leukemia was such a long hard battle for both her and my dad.  It brought with it a lot of pain and tears, but also tender moments and faith building experiences.  Here is a timeline of her illness, much of which was taken from emails sent from my dad to friends and family to update them on her illness. May 2012: My mom began seeing double and had numbness and tingling in her hands. Her blood platelets and white blood cell counts were also alarmingly irregular.  This led to many tests to determine if she had cancer.   June 2012: By June mom was in terrible pain, and had lost almost all use of her arms, hands and legs.  My dad had been dealing with this all on his own, and was so relieved when she was admitted to the hospital June 27th. She remained there until July 5th with my dad by her side. She endured, MRI's, spinal taps, countless blood draws and still no one could tell her what was wrong.  The best they could determine was th

Vickie Woodstock Obituary Vickie Church Woodstock Cedar City, Utah Vickie Church Woodstock entered the spirit world on October 11, 2012 at the age of 56 after a hard-fought battle with leukemia. She was born September 27, 1956 in Cedar City, Utah to Richard LaVon and Ilene LeBaron Church. At the age of five her family moved to Mesa, Arizona where she graduated from Mesa High School and Mesa Community College. While a sophomore in high school Vickie met her sweetheart, Jonathan Gregory Woodstock. After his mission to Canada they married for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona temple on May 20, 1978. Going Home

Image
My mom is home!  She wanted so bad to leave the hospital and to be with her family, even knowing that going home meant going home to her Heavenly Father.  She is ready, and we are enjoying our final days with mom.  I even introduced her to her new granddaughter Hinckley Victoria who is named for her.  I can only hope she grows up to be as wonderful as her grandma!  Grandma insisted that Taylor wear a hat just like hers!:)  On one of our visits to the Huntsman Cancer Institute we had to drive through a terrible storm.  Just when the storm became almost more than we could handle and we thought we might have to pull over, it ended, and the most beautiful rainbow appeared. This brought me so much peace, thinking of the terrible storm my mother had been facing for the last 4 months, and knowing that the storm will soon pass, and she will be returning to our Heavenly Father.  She too will be beautiful among the heavens!

Special Moments

Kimball allowed her dad and I to be with her last night as she received her patriarchal blessing.  She is only 12 and the patriarch was quite surprised by her maturity for her age.  She has been fasting and preparing for months now and as was evident from her amazing blessing, she was ready! What a beautiful, spiritual experience.  It was so humbling listening to our Heavenly Father's words to our daughter, and realizing, she is not our daughter, she is His! We have just been privileged enough to be her stewards here on this Earth.  I am so thankful for this choice daughter of God, and the blessings she brings into our lives and will bring into the lives of those around her throughout her life. What a blessing to know that Heavenly Father knows her so well, and is preparing her to accomplish his plan for her!
