Rise To Your Call
As primary president I feel the heavy burden of being responsible for the overall function of the primary. We have not had any success at finding a wolf leader for our boys, as the last 3 people we have called have said no to the call. These poor boys have not met for over 2 months and are not getting a very good start into scouting. I have prayed and prayed to know what to do and finally decided I better roll up my sleeves and go to work! I have to admit I did it with the attitude of "I should not have to be doing this, I already have enough responsibilities as president."
I recently re-read sis. Esplin's conference address she gave during our most recent general women's meeting in which she said...
President Thomas S. Monson, who has understood and lived the admonition to love, said: “I believe the Savior is telling us that unless we lose ourselves in service to others, there is little purpose to our own lives. Those who live only for themselves eventually shrivel up and … lose their lives, while those who lose themselves in service to others grow and flourish—and in effect save their lives.”
True Christlike service is selfless and focuses on others. “Don’t think of your task as a burden; think of it as an opportunity to learn what love really is.”
Well, I have taken this opportunity to learn, and I truly love these boys! They are so fun and eager to do any goofy thing Sis. Wastlund has planned with a smile and cheerful heart, and they have truly touched mine. I have enjoyed these weekly meetings and the opportunity to "focus on the one"... or 5 in this case. As president I get so caught up in the overall function of the primary as a whole, that I have truly missed the one on one interaction that comes with serving our Fathers children. I am thankful for this chance I have been given to remember the purpose behind our service, and what love really is!
